Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 encryption?

No! Base64 is just an encoding โ€” anyone can decode it instantly. Never use it to hide passwords or secrets.

Why does output end with = signs?

Padding. Base64 output length must be a multiple of 4, so = characters pad the end (0, 1 or 2 of them).

Can I encode a file?

This tool handles text. Small files can be encoded by developer tools, but large ones produce enormous strings.
